What Is Humility? - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) July 22, 2025

The term humility has such a negative connotation. However, it simply means to walk in the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 22:4). It therefore means to do things and make choices with the knowledge that God is watching and will judge all things.

Sadly, the humble are seen as weak and are subject to attack and humiliation at the hands of the wicked who see them as easy targets. Yet, the Bible makes it clear that the humble will reap riches, honor, and life (Proverbs 22:4).

Therefore, choosing to be humble in the face of adversity remains the wise option because the reward comes from God and goes beyond this human realm. The life Proverbs 22:4 speaks of goes beyond having a long life on earth. It speaks to life in eternity as opposed to eternal death in hell.

When we understand that humility is the fear of the Lord, not the fear of men, and that its rewards extend beyond human existence to the eternal variety, the choice to be humble suddenly looks different.

We realize it's not just about being a 'simp' as some would characterize it. Instead, we see that our humility is a choice to please and not offend God. Just as Joseph opted not to know Potiphar's wife's nakedness. He could have slept with that woman, and no one would have known. He likely would have benefited from the interaction in the short term.

Instead, he was more concerned about what God would think of such a decision (Genesis 39:9). He knew that God sees all things and nothing can be hidden from Him. And so he decided to forgo the short-term carnal benefits, keeping his long-term interests in mind.

And we are all aware of the result. Although he ended up falsely accused of rape and in prison, Joseph was rewarded by God with riches and honor when he became Pharaoh's representative. He was known to be equal to Egypt's ruler with complete control over that nation and all its wealth.

The rewards didn't end there, because he received a long lifespan from the Lord (Genesis 50:22-23). And he went on to live in heavenly glory. These are but some of the rewards for those who would walk humbly as God requires in Micah 6:8.

Would you choose humility for God's sake? Would you choose humility like Jesus, Joseph, and many other great men and women of God have? The choice is yours, as are the rewards if you follow God's way.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, thank You for another wonderful day of fellowship. To You be all the glory and praise!!

Lord, we adore You and honor You. Thank You for loving us so much that You taught us today how we can honor Your instruction in Micah 6:8, which calls human beings to walk humbly with You. We trust in You that as we have prayed, You will help us to choose humility and walk in reverential fear of You. For Your word tells us in Isaiah 8:13 - The LORD of Hosts is the One you shall regard as holy. Only He should be feared; only He should be dreaded (BSB).

Thank You for the promise in Proverbs 28:14 - Blessed is…

Father, I thank You for Your grace and Your mercy. I thank You for what happened not long ago and how You opened my eyes to a way the enemy is impacting Your people.

Lord, I pray for peace in the minds of Your children. You have given every believer a sound mind. However, the enemy specializes in bombarding people with stimuli and chaos to make it appear that they can never enjoy what is their inheritance per Your word in 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV).

But satan has been lying from the beginning (John 8:44). And You, God, told us the truth from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). So I stand on that truth and pray, saying every structure created by…

Today, we learned what the Bible says about humility and why we need to pay attention to what it means. The rewards for choosing to fear the Lord, instead of anyone or anything else, and thus be humble, are huge.

So, let's pray for grace and help from the Lord so we will begin to choose godly humility in our daily lives.

Dear Father, thank You for being our Shield and Protector. The God who hovers over us and keeps us safe. Thank You.

Your word teaches that humility is the choice to walk in the fear of You, and we can admit that there have been times when we have chosen otherwise. God, please forgive us for making…

Lord, still the turmoil of the nations. There are countless wars and rumors of war all over the globe. People suffering because of the choices of others spurred by ego, greed, murderous intent, and more. Remember the children, the women, the old, the men who do not desire war but want peace. Have mercy, Almighty King, and bring about a turnaround that removes the instigators and agitators from the equation. Make them powerless, IJN, Amen.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace and kindness upon the world and all who live in it. Thank You so much for showing great and undeserved mercy.

IJN, I bring before You the various nations where weather events have brought destruction and pain. Lord, please have mercy and comfort the suffering who are dealing with the aftermath of these events. Many have lost loved ones, property, and peace as a result.

God, I pray for the survivors that they will be touched by Your gracious right hand. Calm their troubled minds and bring restoration, God of Compassion. Amen.
