Don't Fret Because of The Wicked - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) August 21, 2026
Have you ever noticed how God spoke of the wicked in the Bible? In Isaiah 7:4, He called two enemies of the Kingdom of Judah "smoldering stubs of firewood." To Him, those kings were all bark and no bite—nothing to worry about. Jesus dismissed Herod Antipas, calling him a fox when some Pharisees informed him that the ruler wanted Him dead (Luke 13:32). If these types of people didn't bother the Lord and His Son, why are we, the children of God, so bothered and afraid of the wicked today?
Throughout the Bible, Christians are commanded to have no fear. Not of people, things, or even the devil. The only one deserving of our fear and reverence is God Himself. And the Lord also made it clear that the wicked should not cause anxiety or distress for those who believe in Him and His Son. Proverbs 24:19-20 - Do not fret because of evildoers or be envious of the wicked, /for the evildoer has no future hope, and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out. The attitude we should have toward evildoers is not one of concern because we have a God who deals with them.
Remember when King Sennacherib wanted to capture Jerusalem in Isaiah 36? On his order, his war commander repeatedly blasphemed God and spoke like the father of lies. He informed his listeners that the powerful Assyrian army had destroyed other nations and their gods. He called on Judah to submit so they wouldn't suffer the same fate. King Hezekiah went to the Lord and cried out in prayer. God responded by assuring him that Sennacherib would not achieve anything he threatened. Then He wiped out 185000 of Sennacherib's forces. And later, Sennacherib died.
The Lord dealt with the Assyrian king just as Proverbs 24:19-20 states. Sennacherib blasphemed the Lord, and Hezekiah didn't respond in his strength but reported his enemy to God, who took care of things. Sennacherib's downfall was dramatic and disgraceful. His sons murdered him, and the god he served neither warned him nor did anything to save him because his death happened in a temple.
Hezekiah, however, remained Judah's King. Imagine if he'd cowered before Sennacherib in the face of all his threats? He would have ceded ground to a cruel man, which is contrary to God's word in Proverbs 25:26 - If the godly give in to the wicked, it’s like polluting a fountain or muddying a spring (NLT). Instead, he went to God with his issues and called on Him to intervene. His story is a reminder to worry less about the threats of the unkind and instead leave the matter in God's hands because He is best equipped to deal with the wicked.
Like Hezekiah, we are to drop our issues at God's feet. When we do this, He has promised to be our shield (Psalm 55:22). And when evil people attack, we must step out of the way and let Him deal with them. He alone is the Avenger. He wants us to apply His word, living righteously by His grace and guidance. As we prioritize these things, we never have to worry about the wicked. We become more pleasing to the Lord, and He can even cause the wicked to make peace with us. Regardless, any attacks must end because no weapon formed against God's servants will prosper (Isaiah 54:17).
Don't let the wicked throw you off and cause you to sin in anger with pettiness, foul language, or unforgiveness. Control your thoughts and emotions, walk in the light, and be faithful to the Lord. The blood of Jesus covers and blunts evil attacks, satan's included. The Lord is your light and salvation, so there is no one to fear (Psalm 27:1). Remember, God destroyed Sennacherib and is more than able to remove those who seek to oppress you. Therefore, do not fret over the actions of the wicked, knowing that God will defend you from them. Ask Him to have the final say and let Him do just that. God bless you.
