God's Pleasing Servant - Friday Praise & Pray (for others) July 17, 2026

The term "people pleaser" has become popular in our modern lexicon. A people pleaser is someone with an inherent need to please other people and receive their approval. Such individuals avoid conflict and often do not establish healthy and godly boundaries with those around them. They could even put themselves in situations that the average person would avoid, all because they don't want to upset others.

From a Christian perspective, the main problem with being a people pleaser is that the pleaser puts the happiness of people above the concerns of the Lord. In such instances, mere mortals take God's place at the center of the pleaser's heart. This becomes idolatry, with humans becoming the object of their attention in a way that God deserves. And no, we can't please God when pleasing people takes precedence.

King Saul was guilty of this. During a time of war with the Philistines,…

ALTAR CALL

If you are yet to give your life to Christ, don't let this moment go by without doing so. And if you've backslidden and are living as you like instead of how God wants you to, now is the time to recommit.

It is time to repent and return to the Lord. It is time to commit yourself to living by His word and submit to having Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

Look, the video below will do a better job explaining things than I can, and it's only 8 minutes long. Yup, there are no cliff notes, please just watch.

If you watched the video to the end and said the prayer at the end, then welcome to being a child of God! You are now a born-again Christian! I pray you receive the Holy Spirit and are led in the ways of the Lord. Send me a message letting me know you said the prayer. I'll send you more materials so you can grow as a new creature, washed clean and restored.

Regardless, please make prayer a regular part of your life. It is simply you talking to the Lord. Also, please start reading the Bible and ask God to make it come alive for you. It holds all the answers you need. You can start by reading the Epistle of John, the Book of Acts, and the Book of Romans. Get water baptized as quickly as you can and ask God to lead you to a church of His choosing.

Congrats and God bless you!

Discipline - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) July 14, 2026

I don't know about you, but I never liked being disciplined when I was younger. As I've gotten older and become a parent, I've come to see those experiences much differently. I now realize that the elders in my life were interested in training and raising me to become a well-functioning member of society. They wanted me to be someone they could be proud of.

The Lord is no different. Like a caring Father, He is invested in people becoming individuals He can be proud of. People who reflect Him well wherever they go. And it is for this reason that He often has to discipline those who belong to Him. The process is often not enjoyable. However, there are certain important factors you must keep in mind.

The Lord reserves His discipline for a very unique set of people. Proverbs 3:11-12 - My son, do not despise the LORD’s…

Reasons Not To Backslide - Friday Praise & Pray (for others) July 10, 2026

Being a Christian isn't always easy when many have rejected organized religion in general. Plus, the world's values are different from those espoused in the Bible, adding another layer of complexity. There are also spiritual consequences for selecting Christ. One is that satan will attack, trying to convince a person that they made the wrong choice. This and more are to be expected since Jesus told believers to expect suffering for following Him.

Yet true disciples of Christ push through the adversity, convinced that God's concerns and promises are worth the discomfort. Sadly, many Christians eventually walk away from the narrow path, unable to persevere and wait, both of which are part of God's becoming and building process. The reasons for this are numerous, but frankly, this message isn't about those who have turned away from God. It is about you and the reasons why you shouldn't.

While some can be convinced that backsliding isn't a big deal, please do not…

What Is Your Citizenship? - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) July 7, 2026

Have you ever had to fill out a form that asked about your citizenship? That question is a big deal in most countries, because your citizenship determines the benefits and rights you enjoy. The issue of citizenship is a big deal to God as well. The citizens of heaven get to achieve and walk in certain blessings that non-citizens won't experience. This is why, during a famine, Isaac somehow reaped a hundredfold harvest (Genesis 26:12). His heavenly citizenship ensured that the limitations of the land didn't impact him. This is the case for those who believe in Christ and through obedience, become citizens of His Father's kingdom.

It is all well and good to rejoice in and expect such success as a citizen of heaven, but we must never forget that membership has requirements. In the world, citizens are expected to pay taxes and observe the laws, among other civic…

The Paul Challenge (God's Concerns Series 5 - Mark 8:33) - Friday Praise & Pray (for others) July 3, 2026

Apostle Paul's origin story is fascinating. Originally named Saul, he was a Pharisee who hated Christians. He hunted many of them down, putting them in jail, and advocating for their death. Despite his past, God chose to use him to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to countless people and his writings continue to convict lives today.

He'd encountered Jesus on a trip to Damascus to find Christians. The Lord got His attention by blinding him and speaking with him. He then sent (the good) Ananias who, through the power of God, healed Paul of his blindness and gave him the Holy Spirit. From that moment onward, Paul was on fire for the Lord.

And that zeal didn't dim when God informed him that trouble lay ahead on his journey to Jerusalem. In fact, multiple believers gave prophetic words that he would suffer when he got to the holy city. Their deep affection for…

Should Christians Befriend Unbelievers? - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) June 30, 2026

As Christians, we often have this idea that we need to shun unbelievers because they are not Christians like us. On some level, the reasoning makes sense. The belief is that someone who hasn't submitted to Jesus will more than likely cause the believer to backslide, even if not on purpose. There is a concern that the believer will no longer be sensitive to sin, but blind to it, and begin to compromise if they spend too much time with unbelievers.

From this perspective, befriending an unbeliever is dangerous and should certainly be avoided for those who are not yet well-rooted in the faith. It should also not be the pathway of choice when the Holy Spirit does not place it on a person's heart to go that route. This is especially important to note because those who hear from and obey the Spirit of God are the children of God (Romans 8:14).

Still,…

Are You Unknowingly Wicked? - Friday Praise & Pray (for others) June 26, 2026

Recently, I was reading Romans 1 and paid attention to Paul's assessment of wicked people. It's easy not to see oneself as wicked. After all, you don't steal, you've never killed, and you help little old ladies cross the street (we all do that, too, right?). However, there was one tiny mention about the wicked that gave me pause and made me realize many of us Christians might fall into that category unknowingly.

Romans 1:21 - Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship him as God or even give him thanks. And they began to think up foolish ideas of what God was like. As a result, their minds became dark and confused. Again, Paul was speaking about the wicked, highlighting some of the things they do. Although these people were not believers in God and His Son, do you see anything in that verse that could apply to…

Dear Christian Idolaters - Tuesday Praise & Pray (for others) June 23, 2026

Many of us do not see ourselves as idolaters, but the word of God testifies against some of us. So, let us look at Jeremiah 32:34 - They set up their vile images in the house that bears my Name and defiled it.

With those few words, the Lord explained why He was upset with the ancient people of Judea. They'd turned to other gods. Even within the very Temple, where He was to dwell. The building created so that He could be in the midst of those He loved. Right in the most holy place was the presence of false gods.

We might think this is an Old Testament issue that doesn't apply to us modern Christians, but that is not the case. In fact, many self-proclaimed believers are idolaters. While they may not bow and burn incense to the Canaanite deity, Molek, they serve its current equivalent and…

TIPS FOR TODAY'S GATHERING

For the rest of today's P&P gathering, please thank God for your life and the fact that through Jesus, you have received redemption. If you are not a born-again believer or aren't sure what that means, look here for more.

Take some time to share thanksgiving for yourself and your loved ones. Be sure to offer God thanks for those touched and transformed by God's call to let go of the false gods and idols in their lives.

And if you are one of them, thank Him for freedom. Thank Him for salvation.

Share music that worships God (not just 'religious' music that focuses on making you feel good).

If you have follow-up questions, kindly drop them below or send me a message. There are no stupid questions among those seeking to know God more and worship Him in spirit and in truth. Unfortunately, I will be unavailable during fellowship, but I will check in from time to time, by God's grace.

God bless you.

On Distraction - Friday Praise & Pray (for others) June 19, 2026

A distraction pulls your attention from what you should be doing. It disrupts your focus and ability to concentrate. Far too many Christians can barely pray because something else demands their attention. Sometimes, such distractions are unavoidable, such as the need to care for a child. However, there are interruptions you must beware of - that call that arrives right before studying the word, for instance. Such non-coincidences are the outworking of satan's schemes to stop you from drawing closer to God, destroy your spiritual health, and cause you to misuse the powerful processing unit God gave you - your mind.

Being a believer requires a certain amount of self-discipline. Without it, you will fail to live within the boundaries spelled out in the Bible. Don't gossip, don't grumble, or don't cause others to sin, for example. And when you allow distractions to intrude on the things you are to…
